To help your child succeed on their Grade 4 French Ministry Exam, we've gathered important information, including the dates, the skills being assessed, and permitted materials. You'll also find resources to support effective preparation.
The mandatory Grade 4 French Ministry Exam for 2025 will take place over four days:
The French exam is divided into two sections: Writing and Reading. Each section has specific objectives:
Reading: your child will need to demonstrate a clear understanding of a text. This means identifying important details, answering questions accurately, and making inferences using clues from the text and their own knowledge.
Writing: Points will be awarded based on adapting to the writing situation, the coherence of the text, the use of appropriate vocabulary, correct sentence structure and punctuation, and adherence to standard spelling and grammatical rules.
For the writing and reading tasks, your child will be allowed to use the following materials:
During the exam, your child will need to apply what they’ve learned in class to show their reading and writing skills. To help them feel confident and prepared, we recommend exploring some review materials—all in French—such as the Top Notions section and various study sheets available on the AlloProf website.
